ACTION: Call: Ask your CA State Assemblymember to support SB. 308 , the Carbon Dioxide Removal Market Development Act!

ACTION: Call: Ask your CA State Assemblymember to support SB. 308 , the Carbon Dioxide Removal Market Development Act!

SB. 308, or the California Carbon Dioxide Removal Market Development Act (CDRMDA), is new OpenAir-supported state legislation that has been introduced by State Senator Josh Becker (SD-13). For a great FAQ about SB. 308, go here.  The bill already made it through the State Senate on May 25th. Now we need the Assembly to pass it. And this will only happen if voters reach out to their assemblymembers in large numbers by phone to directly urge them to support and vote for the bill. Please call your assemblymember today!

STEP SUMMARY:

  1. Look up your State Assemblymember below by typing in your zip code.
  2. Call your Assemblymember’s office at the number that pop ups below in the second block, after you type your zip code in.
  3. Briefly express your support for SB308 to the staff members that pick up the phone, and request that the Assemblymember support the bill.
  4. Send information to the staff member in charge of reviewing the legislation. For this you just need to ask if there is someone at the office who you can send more information about the bill to. You can plug that person’s name and email, along with your own, in the fields below and they will automatically be sent a copy of the bill with you copied.
  5. Thank the staff member, and hang up.
  6. Report what happened to map your call.

1. Introduce yourself

“ Hello, my name is [your name] and I’m a resident of [your city or town] in Assemblymember________’s district.”

2. Say what you are calling about:

“As a constituent I am calling to urge Assemblymember______ to vote Yes for the the Carbon Dioxide Removal Market Development Act, or SB 308.

“This is new legislation that was introduced by State Senator Josh Becker.”

NOTE: The person who answered the call might ask for your email and for you to restate the bill name or number at this point.

3. Briefly explain why you think the CDRMDA deserves their support.

You can state this very briefly in your own language, based on why you think the bill should be made into law. But here are a few key points that are important that you can use:

  • Climate scientists agree that carbon dioxide removal is a critical piece of solving the climate crisis, along with clean energy.
  • California should lead on CDR now, because it will help our state meet its climate commitments.
  • California can build a world class carbon removal sector, creating jobs and opportunity around the state.

4. Offer to email further information by email and thank them!

  • “I have some links related to this bill and to CDR. Who should I email those to in your office?”
  • Record the email given and enter it into the field in Step 2, along with your own email below it, and hit ‘send’. The email will go to both you and the staff member.

5. Goodbye

  • “Thank you for taking my call”
